Will I be able to use all 4 GB's of RAM on my PC?
-
I have a custom built PC (specs below) and I want to know if I will be able to utilize 4 GB's of RAM with a 32-bit OS. I know Microsoft says that it can, but I've read in some places that only about 3 GB's are recognized, or 4 GB's are recognized, but not actually utilized. So If I install 4 GB's of RAM, can I use it ALL? Specs: Motherboard: ASRock H55 Micro ATX (2 RAM slots) CPU: Intel Core i5 670 (3.4 GHz, dual core) RAM: 2 GB ADATA DDR3 1600G HD: Western Digital 150 GB 7200 RPM VideoCard: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB DDR5 128-bit I use an external DVD drive, upgrading to blu-ray internal soon.

Answer:
NO, MY FRIEND YOU CAN USE ONLY UP TO 3.3 GB RAM. IF YOU UPGRADE TO 64-BIT OS THEN AND THEN YOU CAN ONLY USE 4GB OR 4GB+

You're partially incorrect, Nitshit J. You can use any size RAM in a 64 bit operating system. I, actually, am using a 64 bit operating system and only have 2gb of RAM.

Nishit J is exactly right. I found this out when I installed Windows XP via Boot Camp on my 4GB ram MacBook. Why not install a 64-bit OS with a theoretical maximum of 192GB ram? The 32-bit OS is seriously holding back your i5 670 from reaching its true potential. Nice System! ***EDIT*** Yes actually, Windows 7 has something called compatibility mode. I just snapped this 5 minutes ago: http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/1548/compat.png So far it hasn't failed me but there are reports of problems with some programs which is why you can download a free XP virtual machine from Microsoft. Look here to see if your specific programs are compatible with Windows 7 x64 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
