How does a dvd-rw able to be rewritten?

New internal DVDRW install help?

  • Here are the problems while installing a new DVDRW writer First I have 2 slots DVD-ROM and CDRW drive then I removed the CDRW driver installed the new DVDRW driver removed the back wires (long cable ide cable connects from motherboard to cdrw to dvdrom) now I changed to motherboard to dvdrw to dvdrom) and removed the power from cdrw connected to dvdrw. After staring system I am not getting any new driver screen also when I open my computer the dvdrom and dvdrw and cdrw drives are missing from my compuer.

    The most likely cause is that your new drive isn't configured correctly. You have to look on your CDRW drive, most likely on the back. You should see an area where there are some jumpers and near there you will see something that says master or slave or M or S. Something to indicate whether the CDRW is the master or slave (or cable select). Basically look on your DVDRW that looks the same. Make sure the jumpers are set in the same fashion. You new DVDRW will give you a good description of master/slave settings and how to correctly configure them to match the drive to your system.

If these are all IDE devices you need to change a jumper on the new DRDRW drive to say it is a slave or secondary device.

If you are installing just one drive, it should be master connect the wide cable to it connect the power cable to it connect it to the motherboard and make sure all pins fit into the wide cable on the motherboard and into the drive it should work.if you are installing two drives one should be master one should be slave do that by moving the jumper on the slave one spot away and the slave should be connected to the second spot of the wide cable.
