How do I know that my computer can burn DVD?

I have a DVD writer in my computer, but can't burn a DVD. Don't know know why?

    I can answer your question. The reason you cannot burn a DVD movie is becouse you aren't using the correct software to allow you to bypass the copyright protection on the DVD's you are trying to burn. Nero or any other software that comes with your PC or DVD writer will not allow you to copy protected DVD's. Their are some free programs like DVD Shrink and DVD decrypter that will allow you to copy the DVD's to your hard drive and then burn the movie to a blank DVD, but these programs are useless because they are out of date and no longer have updates. If you want to copy any DVD movie, then I would recommend getting DVDFab 3 Platinum. I have this software and it works great. I never had a problem with it. Its according what you are trying to burn. Make sure what you got is not copy right. If so, It won't burn. Try a dvd you got, that you know it works.

You have to have the software to write to it. It's not like a floppy drive where you can just copy to the drive. There are many write programs. Do a search for DVD write programs. If you got the drive with your computer, you should have a DVD writer program.

Do you have some kind of disc burning software like Nero? Do you get an error, if so what's the exact error message?

have you installed the software that came with tou DVD burner? there should have been a cd that came with your burner, just pop that inand you'll be good to go in a few min.
