Which one is better? And Can I use it for single speed?

Must I use the RAM speed specified by my computer or do can I use a higher one?

  • I have a ECS PT890T-A motherboard and it says it supports 533MHz. If I buy a 667MHz RAM module, will it be recognized and work just as well, even if at a lower speed?

  • Answer:

As other people have said, yes you can put faster RAM into a slower slot as long as it is the right memory type (no putting DDR into DDR2). If you buy 667MHz DDR2 and put it in a 533MHz DDR2 slot it will 'almost' always work just fine. Some memory is just a little flaky about compatability but the majority of the time no worries. In my old Athlon XP 1600 (with DDR 266 slots) I have one stick of DDR400, one of DDR333 and one of DDR266 -- all working happily together at a speed of 266 :) Slow, but at least allows me to answer questions here :)

@ neeraj9--no, thats untrue. if your motherboard supports 533, you CAN purchase 667 ram but it will only operate at 533.

It will only run at the speed of the lowest piece.IE 533MHz. Just make sure it is compatible with your MoBo.

I believe you have to buy a new motherboard to get faster speeds. I am not %100 but I know that dude [email protected] is not very good at answering computer questions.

It is better you go with the specifications of the manufacturer. However if you install 667 MHZ it will work with the speed of 533 MHZ.

Thomas

higher one becase it can get you a higher speed
