How To Fix A Corrupted HDD?
-
I have a 500GB internal hard drive that I connect to my notebook through a SATA to USB connector. For some reason I could not get in to it so i had tried to format it. During the format, my power went out and since then, the drive won't show up on my computer after I hook it up, so I believe I corrupted it, so is there any way to fix it or am I stuck (I didn't have any data on it so data recovery is not an issue) Thanks, this will help me a lot.

Answer:
Your disk should still work but because it was in the middle of a format the partition table is most likely unreadable. If you are using Windows 2000, XP, or Vista you can use the Disk Management tool to reinitialize that disk. 1.) Right click on "My Computer" (or "Computer" on the Start Button Menu if using Windows Vista) 2.) Left click on "Manage" 3.) Click on Disk Management (See Source 1 for a picture) 4.) Most likely the "Initialize and Convert disk wizard" will pop up. You can click on "next next next next finish" to get through that. 5.) Right click on the "Unallocated space" out beside the disk that represents the USB disk. (See Source 2 for a picture) (It won't contain anything other than unallocated space, if you see "C: drive" on the same line, you are right clicking the wrong one) 6.) Left click on "New Partition" 7.) Follow that dialogue to create a drive letter and format the disk. Done! Good luck!

Internal or External? I'll assume external... When Windows can't or won't cooperate, try formatting the external drive using a Linux Live CD, like FreeSpire Linux, for example. Once formatted (as Fat32), disconnect it and reboot, and, when Windows has fully booted up, connect the drive, it will appear in Windows. If not, it's likely toast! Is it still under warranty?

Umm, assuming theres no hard wares failure, you could retry and format it again.use in a different case. should be ok. they can be bit temperomental [typo??] at times. i dont se that whats happened has destroyed the drive. ive been through similar at times with my drives.
