Why are my speaker and headphone not working simultaneously?

Windows7: No sound from speaker saying it is not plugged in?

Well i got a solution (temporary though ) note * : my headphone is working well it is saying speaker not plugged in eventhough it is plugged in ............ well i found out a temporary solution after hours of searching. All those internet suggestions or solutions worked for many computers but not mine..... so here is what i did ..... i connected the speaker directly into the headphone and there it goes working... Now my speaker is working thru headphone portal but working fine :) Enough to play games and listen to music :D Thought i would share this with those who are having the same problem !! ;)
Answer:

Maybe the motherboard/soundcard isn't working. Only thing I can think is drivers aren't liking Win 7
