I wanna replace the E drive in my computer with a dvd drive, but im unsure of some things? More in details?
-
Okay currently my E drive doesn't work and I have a spare dvd drive that runs. I don't know much about hooking things up. But what i do know is that my dvd drive, well is a dvd drive. And im not sure what a E drive is, but i think its different from a dvd drive. What I also know is that there are two plugs that go into my E drive right now and they look the same to fit in my dvd drive. But I don't think my DVD drive is not a E drive. Im not not even sure what a E drive is. I am completely lost on that. I want to unhook up my Edrive and also remembering which 2 plugs I unhooked and then replugged those 2 plugs into a dvd drive, which the 2 plugs fit in . Well it work? Will it cause my computer problems. Im so lost.

Answer:
First off, E is the drive's designation, as in C:, D:, etc. Second off, yes it should work, although you'll have to install drivers for the DVD drive. Just go to the manufacturer's site for that. Below is a link to a step by step guide to installing an optical drive. Good luck!

e drive may not be an optical drive that you can replace. it could be a removeable drive or a install from like netzero or something. when you are playing your movies what drive does it say that they play on?

Ok, your question is a little confusing because of the formatting, but I will try to answer. When you open My Computer in Windows, you may see: C: drive D: drive E: drive C: is almost always the main hard drive that Windows, your documents, and other programs live on. D: is usually a cd or dvd drive E: can also be another hard drive, cd/dvd, or even a USB thumb drive. Those letters are simply designations for a drive. Your best bet is to take out the old cd/dvd drive. Then match the jumper setting on the new drive to the old drive (MA, SL, CS). Then plug in the new drive and enjoy.

Should work fine. The E drive is just a letter that the system assigns to the hardware that is installed. You could re-letter it to whatever letter is unused on your system. You might want to look at the outside of the case of the system that you remove and pay attention to any 'jumpers' that may be installed. If the new system doesn't work when you first connect it, you may need to set the jumpers on the new system to match the old system. But first, just connect it and try it. It's unlikely that you'll damage your system. Just unplug the PC while you're working inside. Hope this helps...

Well that's pretty vague, so not quite sure but if I'm guessing right... The cables you're talking about are IDE cables. the E drive is either a spare optical drive or a hard disk. Provided you've still got another hard disk which Windows/your operating system resides on (usually C:\) you should be okay to remove it and plug in the DVD drive (one cable is for the power, the other is for the data). Why you're wanting to put a DVD drive without any apparent reason confuses me though.

all drives in you pc have a letter a-f if you like "a" being the floppy drive "c", being the main drive the rest can be other harddrives or burners cd or dvd drives, just make sure the one you take out look at the jumpers at the rear are the same as the one going in and you have the driver for the new drive, otherwise it maynot work.

Okay, you need to learn alot before going any further. Your attempt to explain what you want to do is not good enough for you to get a simple, direct answer here. Your E:\ drive could be many things; a hard drive, an optical drive, a single partittion of many partitions on a single hard drive, it could even be a temporary usb flash drive, etc. You see, each time you start your computer it is your operating system that assigns a drive letter to the various storage devices. It is vital that you know exactly what E:\ is before you get rid of it. If you were to just install the dvd drive to your motherboard and power supply and start your computer, your operating system would automatically recognize the device and assign a drive letter for it. You operating system would probably assign F:\ for your dvd drive under these circumstances. You still need to learn more about which drive letters represent which devices in your system. Seriouly, take the following advice please. DO NOTHING UNTIL YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. There is no guessing when making changes in computer hardware.
