Can I use a laptop as an external monitor for a DV camera?
-
I can't afford a big CRT external video monitor so I was wondering if I could use my laptop as one. The laptop has a computer monitor plug for a second monitor, S-video, expansion port, USB ports, and a four pin Firewire port. My camera is the Canon XL2. Also, I'm running windows Vista so it's hard to find video editing software that is probably how I would view the incoming video if I can even get it in in the first place. Couldn't I try to find a 4pin to 4 pin Firewire cable and connect it to the laptop and then watch the live feed in a video editing program? Which of the Vista capable software would let me do that? If there is another program that could let me view the video accurately and in realtime let me know.

Answer:
Hooking the camera to the Firewire should work if the camera has it
