Can a regular digital camera be used as a webcam?

Can a digital camera ne used as a webcam via USB?

So I have a HITACHI GX3200E, and I want to use it as a webcam via it's USB cable. The camera doesn't have a software to install on my computer, so is there any other way?

Here is the driver dl page for your camera: http://dvdcam-pc.support.hitachi.ca/en/support/DZGX3e.asp All that it offers is a program called 'ImageMixer3' which is branded with a Windows XP logo if you look at the features page, from that page it doesn't appear to support webcam functionality.
