How do you update drivers?

I have a Dell diemsion E510 working on windows XP Pro edition.I have used windows update and installed everything it told me to. I also have driver dectective and it says i have 9 drivers need to be updated. I have the latestest 7.2 Catylast center for my 128mb Ati Radeon X300 series. But when i go to my decive manager under >My computer>Properties It says my video card needs a new driver update? It also says my network adapter driver, usb drivers, and sound-viedeo-game controller are fine But my driver detective driver says they are all bad and i somehow have 2 unplugged devices which i have no clue about. My usb are intel (i think 945g family) I know this is alot but anyone have any idea how to fix all this junk? I need updates cause when i play civilization 4 on my computer its crashes with either a memory faliure or a ati2dvag infinte loop errror
