Good speakers for a Macbook Black?

Problems with external speakers on a MacBook?

• I'm trying to find external speakers (preferable travel-size) for my MacBook. The first set I bought had a USB hook up and wouldn't work. They showed up in the "sound" and "output" part of applications as the Logitech speakers they were, but wouldn't put out any sound. So I took them back to Best Buy and got a set that plugged in through the speaker jack (the small one -- looks like the one for headphones). They didn't work either!!!! If you know of a way to make external speakers work on a MacBook, please write and explain. Brand names, web sites, etc., are welcome. (But I don't have a lot to spend, so I'd like to keep it under $80 if possible.) Thanks!

  Sound like you do not have your volume turned up? It's the F5 button. If not open System Preferences, then sound, then output and make sure it's on HeadPhones, your output volume is all the way up and that Mute is not checked.
