How To Install Data Card?

How do Install this new graphic card?

  • I recently bought the Genuine GeForce 9800 GT Video Card - 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, HDTV, VGA Support from the tigerdirect.com website and it didn't come with a manual guide and a installation CD only 1 small cable you can check the picture of this tiny cable on (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026I3JO8/ref=asc_df_B0026I3JO8809138?smid=A9B09ZK9BZJQ6&tag=shopzilla_rev_1338-20&linkCode=asn). Here's what I did first, I replaced my old power supply with a new power supply called BFG Tech GS-550 550W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.8 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply basically for the new card. After, that I just plugged in the new power card onto my motherboard while my old card still inside. I connected the 6 pin PCI-e power connector to the new graphic card and then boot up my PC. I check the on the display adapter to see if my new card will appear, but it didn't. It only show the old graphic card driver. My old graphic card is Nvidia Geforce 6150 LE. Do I have to uninstall my old card driver first in order for my new card to work? The reason why I didn't uninstall it is because I didn't have the CD for my new graphic card to install the new driver. I am having difficult problems and I need help really bad. • Answer:

"Do I have to uninstall my old card driver first in order for my new card to work?" No, just disable it in the BIOS and Enable your new PCIx card. Then, get the new card's driver from nVidia's website below, and install it. Then, re-boot and you're good to go.

The LE is onboard right? So Yes you'll have to disable it in BIOS.

Go to your bios settings when booting, find display settings or somthing like that, select PCI-E as default. That should make windows find the new device after booting. And you should uninstall the old driver and install the new one. If you don't have the CD, get it from nVidia website.

Do you have two PCI-E and both X16? If so, then you can have both videos on your mother. Do you two monitors? Plug a monitor on each video card. Do you two displays? Now install your drivers for the your card. Now if the there is only one x16 slot. Then you only have one video card. Remove old and replace with new card. I have seen mix of video slots on motherboards. Most are one video card slot. There few dual video slot motherboards. There even a motherboard with 4 video slot on which you can use 8 monitors.

Save and Exit Bios Install latest driver for your new card after it is detected as new hardware. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Cable to monitor needs to be connected to the new card.
