Whats the average temperature for a graphics card when idle?

My desktops Integrated Intel HD graphics card needs replacing or rather a dedicated GC, whats good?

  • So Ive had my computer for about a year now and im completly fed up with the graphics card, ive dealt with it. Recently ive expanding into more and newer games and some of them i cant even play at all because integrated Intels HD graphics card is so weak that im better off saving up for a dedicated graphics card with atleast 512MB. Too bad i didnt know much about computers back then as i do now. Im looking for a decent or slightly above average dedticated graphics card under $200. I can't play my Amnesia, Skyrim, Rift, Vindictus, and some other pc games decent, or even at all (Amnesia: The Dark Decent and Skyrim) and its starting to drive me bonkers. So, what on earth should i do? Also is there any information i left out that should be needed to solve my question? You'll need both a new graphics card, and a new power supply. Higher-end graphics cards require more power, and Asus builds their stock desktops with cheap PSUs that are just sufficient for integrated graphics but can't support major upgrades. So I recommend a Radeon HD 6850 along with a 500 watt PSU. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131374 Here's a less expensive combination: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371045 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121474 Your current Intel HD graphics are slower than the bottom card on this chart. So even the Radeon HD 6770 (a renamed 5770) would be a massive upgrade. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GT_520/18.html But with the 6850 you'd get higher fps- enough to play some titles on ultra settings instead of high. And if your budget can stretch another $25 for a Radeon HD 6870, that would be even better. For your budget a Radeon 6870 will run those games at max settings. This may require a power supply upgrade

Alan

I agree the 6870 but as suggested you will need a better psu a decent 500w would be more than adequate, it may work ok on your 300w but for a just a few extra bucks(the card is under budget) you might as well do both at the same time

Setup 1: HD6850 with a Corsair Cx430v2 power supply( 135$ + 47$)=182$ - This combination will run SKyrim for example On High @ 1080p no issues at all. It is a great intro/budget combo and it fits under your 200$ price range. Setup 2: Hd6870 with a Corsair CX500v2 power supply(150$ + 60$)=210$ - This combo will max out Skyrim on ultra settings @ 1080p, it is a little over your budget but for the 10$ over it is well worth it! Either of these setups work wonderfully!
