    The Pentium 4 is faster in terms of raw number-crunching speed. However, the second machine has considerably more RAM, and when you're dealing with modern programs on such old machines RAM usually takes precedence over CPU speed. (Although the CPU in the second machine is much slower than that of the first machine, hard drives are even slower. If the Pentium 4 has to continuously wait for the hard disk since there's so little RAM, performance will suffer very dramatically.) It really depends on what the machine is being used for. Personally, if I had to pick one of those (I wouldn't want to), I would pick the second one. Simply put: the Pentium 4 is faster, but the Pentium 3 might be more practical.

The pentium 4, but those computers both sound very out of date and 256 RAM is a very small amount now a days.

if i have to choose between these 2 i would say the pentium 4 but in 2012 we use intel core2 quad processors and later version with a minimal of 8gb ram

Pentium 4, but both of these are very weak and the processors can be picked up for about £5 now. You're computer will bearly be able to handle Windows XP so make sure you don't buy them!

Probably the pentium 4 , CPU clockspeed does make alot of difference.
