What are the webcam requirements for Yahoo! Messenger?

How do broadcast webcam on yahoo Messenger using a Mac computer?

  • I have been trying for ages to get a webcam to work on Yahoo messenger on my Ibook MAC computer but with no success. I recently purchased a new webcam that stated it was usable with MAC OSX. Still Yahoo does not give me any option to broadcast my webcam. I was using Yahoo 2.5 before and I just downloaded and started to use Yahoo 3.0......still nothing. All outgoing webcam options are grayed out" on any of the yahoo messenger menues. I used to go in the chatrooms on yahoo and be able to view and be viewed on webcam. Now that I switched to an ibook with OSX...I CAN DO NONE OF THAT anymore and there seems to be no workable solutions in sight ( I searched all the yahoo databanks as well as Mac discussion archives). The cam seems to work on AIM but nothing on Yahoo messenger Thankyou in advance for your time consideration :) Additional info: I'm on an ibook G4 (2004), operating system OSX 10.3.9; processor speed - 1.2 Ghz PowerPC; 1.25 GB Ram

  • Answer:

I have a logitech QuickCam Pro 4000. It works fine on my Mac Desktop (10.4.8.) using Yahoo Messenger. To get it to work I download and installed maccam 0.8.9. and followed instructions. Heres the URL for macam. http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/9087 Maybe the macam software helps. I did not install the software that came with Logitech QuickCam-its only for Mac10.2. You should also update to Mac10.4.8!!
