Help burning to blu ray?

Can you help me find a Blu-Ray Writer for my Workstation that also connects to my HDTV via HDMI, please?

  • I have a Dell Precision 390 Workstation running MS-Windows XP Professional x64 (as I have 8 GB of RAM and 40 GB paging file). When I bought the system, it came with a DVD R/W+/- and a DVD-ROM, but not a Blu-Ray reader or writer. My TV is a HDTV with several HDMI inputs. Presently, I have a Blu Ray play (Insignia), which I'm thinking of giving to a family member who likes it. If I do give him the Blu Ray player he likes, I'd want to replace it and an idea crossed my mind. What my workstation also needs is a Blu Ray Writer. I have lots of data files and writing them to Blu Ray would be a lot easier than doing it via the internal DVD R/W +/- drive. My Dell Workstation has USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 / 800 connections. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an EXTERNAL Blu Ray Writer that can accept input from a Workstation (e.g. USB 2.0 or Firewire) and has HDMI output. When I did a Google search I got a lot of hits, but they were from 2008, 2009, and early 2010 and about up coming devices. Maybe what I'm seeing as an useful device is something the industry has yet to consider, but to me it makes sense. So, in summary: OS: MS-Windows XP Pro x64 Connections: Workstation/PC: USB 2.0 & Firewire 400/800 HDTV: HDMI Blu-Ray: Writer via USB 2.0 or Firewire 400/800 Blu-Ray: Player via HDMI for a HDTV Is there an external Blu Ray Writer/Player that meets the above specifications / summary / details?

  • Answer:

I know of at least two Blu Ray Burners with HDMI output. These aren't just Blu Ray burners, though, as they do video editing (so this might be over kill). Yet, it does show the possibility. These are the CASABLANCA S3000 and S6000. There are several pages on the net describing them, but here are four of them: 1) The 6000: http://www.mitchellproduction.com/S6000.html 2) The 3000: http://www.mitchellproduction.com/S3000.html 3) Compare the two devices (first chart): http://www.tjvideo.net/macro.htm 4) Compare the two devices (second chart): http://chetdavis.typepad.com/casablancaexpert/2010/11/comparison-chart-casablanca-s3000-vs-s6000.html amd http://chetdavis.typepad.com/.a/6a0120a56f4abd970b0133f5e0cb3f970b-pi The connections are: Connections Front: DV, USB Back: HDMI (output only), DV, S-Video (input only), RCA Audio/Video (input only), Digital Optical Audio Output, Ethernet, USB, and eSATA As you see it supports USB and the HDMI you want, plus several other inputs and outputs.

No such device exists. The best you can do is get a internal/external blu ray burner and use the hdmi out on your computers video card to the TV.

HDMI output is a feature of your graphics card, not the burner.

Havent seen a blueray yet external with USB or and HDMI. BUt quick question is why a blueray. Blueray is probably on the way out by 2011 end or 2012. Most people dont have a need for 50gb disk and thats in dual layer all BR only hold 25gb with single layer. Why you think they are bundling all the bluray movies with the same movie on DVD. Becuase Bluray sales are down over 500% since last year. They cant sell a movie bluray for $30 when you can get both BR and DVD same movie for $30. I have a bluray player for the house but it also plays dvds so its all good.
