Civic loses power in 3rd gear?

Lack of power in 2nd and 3rd gear on my 2002 wrx~!!?

  • i just bought my 2002 wrx a few months ago with 62k on it. it now has 70k. but ive noticed recently that when im about 3000 rpms and hit the gas it doesnt have the pull it used to, and im noticing that in 2nd and 3rd gear. theres also this weird sound like water running through my turbo at normal driving speeds.. im not much of a car guy so any input would be great.. ive heard rumors of a boost leak or bad turbo or bad bov? or should i not mess with it and take it to a dealer and have them look at it?

  • Answer:

I would take it to a mechanic and have it checked out. It could be anything from a vacuum leak to a bad turbo, or something not even related to the turbo. Don't start messing with it if you are not familiar with cars. It will only cause problems when you take it to get it fixed.

It's a Japanese sports car. It will cost you a small fortune to do anything on it at the mechanics'. If you try to fix it yourself, it will cost you an arm and a leg to fix the things you have broken, before you can even get to the original problem. So, just go and see the mechanic. Preferably a Subaru specialist. Those are complicated cars.

If its manual(stick shift) my bet would be your clutch is going. If not possibly a leak. I would definitely take it to the dealer and not mess with it if you do not have experience.
