What should my psi range in my cylinders ?

  • 2006 wrx catless intake stage 2 i took my car into a subbie shop that co works with crawford and they said cylinders 3 and 4 are 130 psi and 135 psi and 30 % leakdown and my turbo seals are bad. now my used car dealership said that all my cylinders are with in a 5 psi range (130-135 psi) and there saying my ringlands are good i just have bad turbo seals. what psi range should i be at for the ej255 motor ? crawford wants me to pay over six grand worth of work done while my dealership says i just need to replace my turbo and intercooler for less than 2 grand two really different quotes what do you guys think and what should my psi range be at ?

  • Answer:

Generally 125-150 is good. The difference between the highest and the lowest should not exceed 25%, add a tiny amount of oil to the lower cylinders to see if the pressure rise this will check you rings verses other issues. Another thinh to try is pressure checking the cyl while set to power stroke. Make sure all the plugs are out and the thottle is open wide while doing a compression test
