How do you transfer Panasonic sdr-h40 camcorder to Sony vegas?

Anyone know how to transfer video from the Panasonic PV-GS39 to my PC for editing ?

  • I just purchased the Panasonic PV-GS39 camcorder and so far, I love it but I can't figure out how to transfer the video from the camcorder to my PC for editing. I'm editing with Windows Movie Maker. I have a Sony Vaio with a Pentium D Processor. It's got Windows XP Media Center Edition. Thanks!

This camera has a "firewire" port, so you will have to go the store (Best Buy, etc.) and buy a fire wire to hook up the camera to the PC. Bring your camera so you get the cable with the correct ends - the camera end has a "mini" jack and the PC end has a standard (larger) jack. Turn the camera off, plug the firewire cable into the camera and to the PC, then turn the camera on into "PLAY" mode. You PC will beep and recognize the camera and a dialog box will open asking if you want to "rip" your movie into Windows Movie Maker. That's it. I do this all the time and it's great fun!
