Where can i find jvc everio manual?

JVC Everio GZ-MS110BEK file format problem?

  • Hi, I have bought a JVC Everio GZ-MS110BEK camcorder (I'm in Europe, so it is PAL format camcorder). It is great except that I cannot do anything with the silly .mod videos it records. First of all, for some unknown reason, the software bundle, Everio MediaBrowser 2 has all the editing and exporting options/buttons grayed out... (And on my other computer it does not even work, it says that it failed to open video...) So I tried alternative converters, about a dozen of them, freeware and shareware (trial versions). First problem is that, none of them (not a single one of them!) offered the correct widescreen resolution that the camcorder records (that is, 1024x576), so the widescreen footage became distorted in each case (I don't know actually why converters want you to specify the output resolution - why can't they just produce the same resolution as the input video's resolution?). The closest match was usually 720x480 but that 480 is less than 576 (loss of video data) plus 720x480 is not 16:9 so video gets distorted... So I switched my camera to 4:3 mode (I wanted to record widescreen footages, that's why I bought this camare), tried conversion, but again, none of the converters offered the standard PAL size (768x576 or 720x576 pixels) -that is ridiculous. So I tried 640x480 (loss of video data and resolution again). Well, the result was usually quite poor... I compared the converted videos to the video I could see via Everio MediaBrowser 2 (as MediaBrowser plays them - it just cannot edit or export them...) and the video in MediaBrowser 2 was always a lot nicer than from the converted files. (Yes, even if I set the bitrate to the very maximum in the converters). So presently I'm seriously pondering to return the camera for a full refund. The only way to create a real mpeg or divx etc. from these nonsense .mod files is to burn a DVD directly from the camera (big waste if you have a 5 minutes footage...) and then use a DVD ripper to convert it to other format. Or to use a software that takes a video of the screen so catches it while playing in MediaBrowser. Both are a nonsense... Best, of course would be if MediaBrowser 2 worked. But it doesn't. More than half of the functions/options/buttons are permanently grayed out. Second best option would be if I could find a program that converts .mod to .avi or .mpeg or something similar, in the correct 16:9 ration, in 576 pixels of vertical resolution and in good quality. I spent many hours and I still could not extract an .avi or .mpeg video... Any idea? Thanks

  • Answer:

Hi there Attila, This is a common issue with JVC camcorders. It saves its videos in .MOD file which is technically just a variation of the MPEG-2 format. As weird as this may sound, renaming the extension from .MOD to .MPG will actually work. Though some reported that they had no success with it, it may work for you. Just create a backup so you won't mess with your files. Alternatively, for a safer conversion you might want to use a more reliable conversion software. This is the one using and I'm pretty sure it will convert your .MOD files (technically mpeg-2) files too: http://www.easydvdburning.com/software/pc-dvd-authoring/xilisoft-blu-ray-to-dvd-converter-suite.html Hope that helps. :)
