How do i transfer video from a Mini DV tape to my Computer?

How do i move files from my mini dv cameras sd card to my computer?

  • I have a jvc mini dv with a mini dv tape and an SD card. I want to transfer my video files to my computer but dont have a firewire port i think anyways so what do i need to move the files from the card?can i just plug the usb into my camera then transfer that way to my computer from the crd not from the tape?

    Your JVC miniDV camcorder probably has a DV port. Connect a firewire cable to the camcorder's DV port (not USB) and your computer's firewire port (not USB). With the camcorder in Play mode, MovieMaker or WinDV or iMovie can Import or Capture the video. Since you did not tell us which computer you are using, we have no way to know if it already has a firewire port (though you told us it does not have one) or if you can install one. Does your computer have a PCI, PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot? If so, get a card for that. If not, then you need a computer with a working firewire port - whether it is built in or added via expansion card. USB-to-firewire cable/converter/adapter things will not work. Firewire, i.LINK, DV and IEEE1394 are all the same thing - and none are USB. If you somehow magically get video on that memory card, it will be low quality very compressed vedieo and not high quality DV-format video.

You should be able to transfer card files with the usb. If you are not able to do that I would suggest getting an SD card reader where you plug the reader into a USB port on the computer, take the card out of the camera and upload the files on your computer like that.

ok maybe if you go into my computer and select the it when it is insterted into the computer? i think that's what i had to do with mine because it would not work automatically with the usb.
