Need to get mini DV tape to digital?

How do I get sound back on a Mini DV recorded tape?

  • I have a mini DV camcorder that I recorded on. As soon as I recorded, I played it back and it worked fine. About 1 month later, I played the same tape back and no sound now??? I tried the tape on another mini dv camcorder and no sound also. Can anyone help? It seems to have erased the sound off the tape? Is there any chance I can get the sound back??

  • Answer:

It sounds to me like you have recorded the sound in 12bit mode, which gives you 2 stereo tracks. Somewhere between then and now the camera has been changed to 16 bit audio mode, or the selection of which of the two 12 bit tracks has changed. Go into the set up menu, and under audio you shold be able to select which audio mode (select 12 bit) you should now have the ability to choose the bias between the two 12 bit tracks, referred to as ST1 or ST2. Try complete bias to ST1, then ST2 and see if your sound reappears. Hopefully this wlll sort you out, in future use 16bit mode as it is better quality AND NEXT TIME YOU POST PLEASE STATE THE MAKE AND MODEL OF EQUIPMENT YOU ARE USING it helps us help you.
