How do I use my Canon ZR930 Camcorder with my computer?

  • How do I use my Canon ZR930 Camcorder with my computer? I've got this Canon ZR930 Camcorder and I want to use it with my computer. I want to get what's on those little "Mini DV's" onto my computer preferably without having to go out and buy some more expensive junk. Thanks a lot! I got an answer to this before but... i couldnt understand a lick of what they were trying to say.

    The Canon ZR930 is miniDV tape based. Connect a firewire cable to the DV port of the camcorder and the firewire port on the computer. Camcorder needs to be in "Play" mode. Launch the video editor, name the project, select whether DV or DV wirescreen, select the file destination on the computer. Import or "Capture". It depends which application you are using. The DV port on a miniDV tape based camcorder is always 4-pin. Since we don't know which computer you have, we don't know if the computer has a 4-pin, 6-pin or 9-pin firewire port... so we don't know if you need a 4-pin to 4-pin, 4-pin to 6-pin or 4-pin to 9-pin firewire cable. USB won't work. USB to firewire converter/adapter/hub/cable things won't work.

Sorry but this is going to cost you money. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder…. Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection. It's always a good idea to read the manual.
