What is the best microphone out there?

What would be the best microphone to get for my camcorder?

  • I have a Canon Vixia H20 that I use to record meetings for my office. I need to be able to pick up people sitting approximately 20-30 feet from the camera. The built in microphone isn't cutting it. What microphone should i get?

How many people? Are they all speaking at once? Is it OK if the microphone has a wire? My first thought is to put a "PZM" ("boundary") microphone on the table. Those are good for picking up sound in a surrounding area. Wire that back to the camera, and you're set. EDIT: Back and forth, I think a PZM setup would be the best application. Start looking through some of these and compare pickup patterns, cost, and reviews to see what might work for you.
