How do I make video footage clearer?

How do I make dark scene video footage look better?

• Ok, so I want to film this thing, but whenever I do anything that has a little light in it, it looks like poop. Basically I want to know how to fix this in my editor, I have Sony Vegas pro 9 and Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 I been thinking about blurring them, but idk:S

  A good hint is to shoot the scene with more light than you want, make sure the camera can get a good crisp image. Then darken it and up the contrast in Vegas. This way you'll get the room as dark as you want, but the image will be quite clear and easy to see. It's easier to get good footage and darken it down in post production rather than shoot dark and try to clean it up in post.
