Answer:
If you have a TV Tuner card, give the analog o/p of your VHS player to the card. The use any video capturing s/w to save the video on your PC.

I bought a 'Dazzle' (sold at a computer store). It changes analog to digital. You hook up the a VCR player to the dazzle and then the dazzle to the computer. There may be other analog converters but this is the one I use. It came with Pinacle Studio9, which also works with my canon video camera, I have found that if you want to download your video camera to your computer, you will need a firewire. It is a port that looks like a USB port but a little different shape. Usually found on the back of your computer. A firewire connection downlaods video at a higher rate of speed, than a USB port. The firewire cord looks a little different, than the USB cord too. The firewire cord and card can be bought in your friendly computer store. ie compusa or bestbuy.

Firewire is a port IEEE standard which is used for many digital devices. Generally DV (Digital Video) cams are controlled and captured by that port. But I afraid that firewire won't work for you. First of all you need a capture card which can capture your video which you need to play through your VHS player, using AV port. If you go for analog capture card it will cost you less and if you go for digital capture card it will cost you more. Definitely digital capture card is better if you can afford. Pinnacle or Avid is good and their software is very industry leading. But you'll get several options when you'll go to buy one. You can mix your video or you can straight burn your video. Any good burning software is capable to convert your video to the required format. So have a capture card, capture your video, edit that is required and burn that. You are then good to watch your video in any player.

Google VHS to DVD convertors. I use the Hauppuage WinTV Usb Convertor. As well as recording from an external source, it will also act as a tv card aswell.
