First question: If you're using Windows Live Movie Maker, you can't separate the audio from the video so you can't edit the audio track. If you're using Vista or XP, in Timeline view, click the little + sign next to the word "Video" on the left side of the video track. The video and audio tracks will appear. Right click in the audio track and click on "Mute". Notice that you can also change the volume and fade in/fade out using the right-click context menu.
