I need a good/small video camera at a reasonable price.

Best HD video camera for a decent price?

  • I recently purchased a jvc everio gz-mg630 and now I am wanting to upgrade. First I want to just share the problems I have with it so maybe it will help understand what I am avoiding. The main issue with the jvc everio is the fact it records .mod which i understand it is just mpeg-2 so I am aware i can rename it .mpg and edit it with most video editing software. I have sony vegas pro 9 and I tried to render it every which way possible and with grim results. If i watch it in its raw .mod or .mpg form the video quality is great. if I plug the camera straight up to the tv the video quality is great. If i render it, convert it, or even think about editing it and rendering it so i can play it on tv it produces grim results. I video on the super fine quality and in the 16:9 format cause I don't like seeing the black bars on the already small screen of the camera (and for some reason every program likes putting it in a 4:3 format and stretching the footage like the end of an old western). If any one even brings up the everio media browser and converting it with that horrible bundled software your solution is an uneducated one and you obviously don't know what you are talking about. Now that's said, I am looking for a camera that will produce great video results that will be editing friendly and record on something that has 0 moving parts. Prefer something along the lines of sd card. I do no there are some drawbacks with sd cards and hd videos being so large so I would need either a large sd card or multiple sd cards. On top of all that I am wondering which camera is compatible with most cards. I appreciate any and all responses
