Video Playback issues.?
-
Hi. I juts got a new video camera and I am having some issues. I have a digital SOny Handycam. It records fine, plays back fine (on the mini lcd on camera.) but when i move the files to my computer, (xp) the video files are choppy.I tried converting them. that didnt help. I use vlc to view most of my files. I did try other programs tho. I just recently reformatted my computer, so I was thinking that might have something to do with it. The video clips work fine on other computers, just not my laptop. (dell vostro 1510) Please help me solve this issue. I really need to be able to edit my video files. Thank you.

Answer:
The file type would have been helpful, also the camera model. I will assume that its either a Hard drive or flash drive, maybe you are recording in HD, but this is a guess as you do not say. The video formats on this type of camera is highly compressed, so processing the video to play takes a lot of your computers resources, XP is fine but the amount of ram the speed of your hard drive and processor may be an issue. play a video and then press Ctrl/Alt/Del see how much of the computers memory processor speed is being used, anything over 80-90% is going to cause you a problem. converting them should help, although its important to choose a less compressed video format, this may help your problem. I think your Laptop has 2GB ram with a maximum of 4GB. 2Gb is not going to be very nice to edit with, there are different models so I cannot tell the CPU yours uses. There is a small utility called EndItAll, it will close down everything that your computer does not need, thus freeing up system resources. maybe give it a go, remember to disconnect your network as your firewall and virus guard could be shut down as well. http://www.docsdownloads.com/Tier1/enditall.htm Another thought if you are running XP have you downloaded SP3? if you have most computers suddenly seem to go on a go slow once its installed. if you have remove it and try the video again.
