How do I get a video off my Video Camera, on to my computer?

How do you get a video from a DVD on a video camera to a computer ?

I cannot find the manual to my video camera, and I am not exactly sure of the model name (sorry!). It's a Sony Handycam and it says "Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar" on the side. It has 800x digital zoom and 12x optical zoom. It records directly to a small DVD on the camera. Do I need to finalize the disc before putting it on the computer (I still need to edit a few scenes via Windows Movie Maker)? Thanks
