Convert a cassette to a DVD?

I have a DV Cassette, how do I convert to DVD on a PC?

  • Hi. I recently recieved a wedding video, and need to convert it into DVD. It was taken from a camcorder which uses Mini DV Cassette, I need to atleast get the video onto my computer so i can store it there and then burn it to DVD. Thanks, Faran

    Depending on the features available in your camcorder model, here are a few things that you can do to achieve your objective: 1 -- If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then using the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc. 2 -- If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC. 3 -- If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC Here is a helpful guide to transfer videos from camcorders to computers. http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/basics/transfer.php

If you want to do it yourself, you are going to need to get a hold of another Min DV camcorder. You will also need a video capture card or firewire card on your PC. You should then be able to capture the video onto your computer from the camcorder. If this isn't feasible, check with a local camera store as they may offer a service that does this.

Brian A's right - you'll need a MiniDV camcorder to transfer the video. I'd stick with firewire to do the capturing - A/V or USB captures tend to be poor quality. You can't burn the captured avi files direct to DVD - you'll at least need to convert them to MPEG-2 and use some sort of authoring app to produce the DVD. Most video editors can do this - have a look at Sony's Vegas Movie Studio.
