How can I transfer my camcorder video tapes to a DVD on my computer?

    If it's not a digital camcorder (analog tape), you'll need a video capture card installed in the computer if it's a desktop. You could try an external USB video capture device that hooks up to the USB port if you have a laptop, but these are often troublesome. A very high data rate is required for processing video in real-time. An internal card works much better. The camera / VCR attaches to the card using standard video / audio cables. I've been through a few TV tuner / capture cards. I'm using a Hauppauge PVR-150 now. By FAR the best, most reliable capture card I've used. It has a hardware MPEG encoder, so it puts much less load on the computer than the ATI or other cards. More reliable results. Nice picture / audio quality. The Hauppauge encodes and records directly to the MPEG format, which is the format used on DVDs. It comes with software to do simple editing and put the DVD-quality MPEG files you capture onto DVDs. You could buy Ulead Video Studio for more advanced editing, adding text on the screen, adding effects... If you have a digital camcorder, you simply transfer the digital files into your computer using the cable, software, instructions that came with the camera. Windows Movie Maker can be used to transfer / edit the files as someone already mentioned. Use DVD creation software (Nero, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, Ulead Video Studio) to create DVDs from the files.

all u need is to find a way to put the video into ur pc and once that is done, u go buy a dvd drive that can burn and start burning them. What I did was I bought a Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 Hi-Speed editing system for Best Buy. What's good about it is that it comes with a system that you can transfer video for dvd,vhs,dv, and it has all the in and out for it and it comes with software to edit it . Too much to say but too sleepy and I think u got the idea. Just go check out the product I gave you and see if u can get a good deal on ebay cause I got it for 100 something but it's worth it.

or you can visit and try VHS-to-DVD.com and copy your home video tapes to dvd. You can get a pretty good conversion at a reasonable price from a lot of places. First of all, you need a firewire port and firewire to connect to your computer to get a better resolution when you capture an image. When you are connected and If you have windows xp, open windows movie maker (start->all programs->accessories), turn on your camcorder and then press capture while playing the tape. when youve captured it, you can then burn the file to a DVD.
