How to get files from camcorder to computer?

How in the universe do i get videos and photos onto my computer?

  • I just got a 400 dollar camcorder and i have no idea how to put the videos i recorded onto my computer. I looked all through the camcorder's menu and it said nothing about putting the DVD RW'S files on the SD card. Then i connected the camcorder to the computer and opened the DVD RW icon under My Computer and it said "drag files here to import". So im lost now lol. It has an SD slot and i tried to put the DVD RW into the cd slot on my computer but it said that nothing was on it. Does anyone know any program i can download to just get my videos onto the computer or anything? Please. I have Windows Vista and the camera i have is a Hitachi Cinema Resolution. Thanks. (:

    Usually the DVD's are for video, the sd card is for stills. Please read your manual and if I were you I'd take that camcorder back and get a flash drive camcorder. But that's just me. MINIDVD If you have a mini dvd camcorder . You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (I downloaded http://www.handbrake.fr/ or free converter http://www.squared5.com and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Usually you would import your videos and drop them in to the timeline, add transitions, menus, music, etc. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away. *

You can look through your menus till the cows come home, that won't help. The Manual that came with the camcorder will tel you exactly what you need to do.
