Does the Sony dcr-hc52 camcorder have good audio?

Should I Buy A HDD or miniDV Sony Camcorder?

  • I'm planning to buy a sony camcorder with a $500.00 budget. Now the thing is that I want it for Concerts, etc. I need a camcorder that can take the best cleanest footage ever with no spots, tiny squares, etc. And just in case of dark places, a powerful flash. Those are two main reasons I'm looking for a camcorder, and it's either a HDD 60GB Sony Camcorder or A miniDV Sony Camcorder. Please Help

  • Answer:

It depends how rough those concerts are, which you are trying to record. If they are "civilized" concerts, then you could go with the harddisc. If you often record hard-rock concerts with mosh pits, and a lot of shoving around, then your harddisc is suspectible to headcrash. Tape is more suitable for an environment, where the camera is jerked around.

mini DV is a better choice. For HDD you need a lot of space to back up your file.

Hi I don't know about the quality but if you buy HDD camcorder 60GB you have to move 60GB movies from camcorder's HDD to your computer's hard disk drive then you have to remove your camcorder's hdd to record new movies on that.so you need a lot of space on your computer to save movies on your computer (a lot of 60GB).if you get miniDV camcorder your movie save on miniDV plus you can have them on your computer. sorry for my bad english good luck

Arminator and Miwa are correct - but there's a bit more you need to know... There is NO consumer camcorder under about $1,800 that can handle low light well. The lenses and imaging chips are too small. In your case, this may not be an issue - typically, at concerts, the talent/musicians are on a stage with lights - so they are not "low light". If you point the camcorder at the folks around you, they *may* be in low light. Having a flash will not impact the video captured - built-in flash is used for stills only. When you decide on the camcorder you want to get, DON'T BUY IT. Go to the manufacturer's web site, download and read through the camcorder's manual and handbook to be sure the camcorder will do what you want. Video is only part of the video experience. Audio plays a big part. If the music is LOUD, the camcorder's auto-mic-gain will be over-driven and the result is a very muddy sounding audio with lots of clipping. This cannot be fixed later. Most camcorders in your budget range do not have any sort of manual audio control. In Sony's case, *some* of their camcorders have a menu setting, "MicRefLevel". This is very basic, rudimentary control for either "Normal" gain or "Low" gain - for high volume levels. The least expensive camcorders with real manual audio control are the Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 and the Sony HDR-HC9. I would also recommend miniDV tape - if you don't re-use the tape, they are a good, affordable, long-term storage option for off-loading video from your computer's hard drive...

First thing you will not get a video camera with a flash, no suck thing as the name implies it flashes. you can get camcorders with lights but they are only good enough for a few feet. To light up an area like a concert arena then you are talking loads of money and loads of power, plus the lighting people at the concert will object. Depending on the type of concert IE is it one that you pay to see or more like school, colledge. with loads of equipment you are going to be stopped and either removed from the concert or at least have your camera taken off you. And dont forget the copy right for copying comercial music. With that out of the way I still thing the best format is Mini-DV. easy to edit, (only problem is the capture time is in real time 10 min's takes 10 min's to capture) HDD cameras compress the video so to edit the footage you need a good computer loads of ram, fast processor and good graphics card. HD mini-dv needs a good machine, but there is no problem with editing as 99% of all software will capture footage from this type of camera (via Firewire) you can keep the tapes as backup, they are not expensive. HDD once its full you have to either delete it or get it onto your computer. there are a number of camcorders at your budget its up to you what you decide to go for. check out the lux ( lower the lux the darker it will film in for get night vision at the distance its not going to work) I hope this helps you a little Good luck RR
