What are some good HD Camcorders?

  • I'm trying to start a Film Club in my school and I was wondering: What are some good HD camcorders. I really want to hear your personal review on a camcorder that you use. Also please list some of the features they come with, price, durability, ease-of-use, and anything else you feel is important.

  • Answer:

If the goal of you film club is to make videos, I recommend a DSLR camera. Something that would probably be in your price range is a Canon T2i its around $700 It shoots full HD video (1080p) and has a removable lens so that if you get more money you have a variety of lenses to use. DSLR's have the same features as professional movie cameras but with so much less cost.Possibly the only thing they can't do is shoot as large a variety of FPS. Most camcorders today have mostly all automated settings which make them unwieldy to use for making movies. I got a T2i after my first year in film school and after using camcorders for the last four years. It blows my mind. The only downside to DSLR's is the video file size is really large and the cards don't hold very much at a high quality, you you'll have to get some extra cards. If your price range is higher than the T2i, i'd recommend the canon 5D mark II. Its around $3,000.
