What's the best helmet camera?

Cold weather and helmet cam batteries?

  • Hey, im looking to get a Tachyon XC Helmet Camera for snowmobiling/snowboarding and downhill biking. I know the cold owns battery life, but this camera claims to get 10 hours of recording time with 2 AA batteries. how much do you think this time span will decrease with the cold weather (always below 32 degrees, probably the 10-20 range even colder doing 50-60 on the trails). also whats the best type of battery to use in this cam? and if any of you are using different cameras for motorsports and really like them lemme know. looking to spend around 200$. Thanks a bunch!

  • Answer:

For AA batteries, I would use something like Energizer Ultimate Lithium. They use a different technology than normal alkaline batteries. Other than common alkaline batteries, their shelf life is many years and they work at temperatures from -40°F to +140 °F . And they weigh less and last much longer than alkaline batteries. They are more expensive but if you take in account their higher capacity and better discharge curve, they are actually not that expensive. Keep the batteries in your pocket (closest to your body) and then load them in the cam just before you ride.
