How do I stream my webcam on the internet?

Setting up a live video stream from my webcam: one that I can watch from school?

  • Is it possible? I want to set up my webcam in such a way that it will stream live video that I can watch from another computer (at school, say). I need pretty clear instructions as I'm really bad with computers lol :P I also want to be able to "share" this live video with other people, if possible. Maybe putting it up on a public website? (I don't care if other people see it). I'm on a Toshiba laptop. I have Vista. The program thing that came with the built-in webcam is "Camera Assistant Software" My internet is Bell Fibe 7 (wireless). Thanks :)

  • Answer:

Try http://www.justin.tv/ - they will stream your video online for you for free. Sign up for an account with them and the instructions there are pretty simple. You just need to make sure your webcam is installed and working before you sign up. Then they give you options to share your video link, embed it on a website, etc... Essentially, Justin.tv lets you start your own internet tv channel, and its free. There will be ads of course. Try it, we used their service to set up a webcam a security camera at one point. Good Luck!
