What is the cheapest professional video camera out there?

What is the cheapest video camera with highest quality.Need one to shoot professional video?

  • I need a camera that shoots video as good as the Canon 5D Mark II. obviously i'm not going to find one that is as good as this one for a cheaper price but video camera would you recommend for shooting professional video. lower than £500 would be ideal. cheers

  • Answer:

Professional and cheap do not go together. the Canon 5D Mark II is a good stills camera but as a professional video camera its a matter of opinion. bad video codecs, (high compression) does not give professional results, but it depends on what you are going to do with the end result. If you only want to spend £500 the you have to really lower your sights. if you are wanting new then you are only going to get consumer products, as anything "professional" is well out of your budget. Looking at the second-hand market, you will not get a HD camera, for that money, nor a very new model, if you are lucky to get a relatively new camera then its probably had a very hard life, and may drop dead at any time. Unless you are using a tripod, or a shoulder mount for the canon, then you are not going to get "professional" quality video, you may have good video quality, but the content, is not going to be up to much. Give a "professional" camera man a video camera (any video camera) and they will make a professional video, the same cannot be said for the other way round. give the average person in the street who uses a video camera a "red" say, and the video quality will be great, but the content (or how its filmed) will be certainly not professional. Get something like a canon XL2 or XL1s, they are older standard definition camera's, but they will still give the HD crowed a run for their money. Even today they are widely used in outside broadcasts, you would get a good one for around your budget, give or take a little, but it certainly will be able to do everything, you will wan it to do and more. Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes – four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video. With a MiniDV tape camcorder, record 60 or 90 minutes ( camcorder settings), 90 seconds or less to change a tape and record for 60 or 90 more and repeat till you run out of tapes. You can get a Canon ZR960 for $250. It is a MiniDV tape camcorder, has a Mic jack. You will need a firewire (IEEE1394) card ($25 to 30) for the computer and a firewire cable (less than 10) to be able to transfer video to your computer. To say this is not HD, think about this. It would cost in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could equal the video Quality of a $250 Canon MiniDV tape camcorder.
