What is the cheapest professional video camera out there?

What professional video camera would you recemend for me to get, budget $3,000 and under?

  • I am looking for a really nice video camera from $3,000 and under. I prefer that it would be HD. Also if you have seen Julian Smith's videos in YouTube, I like his kind of video camera, but I don't know what he uses. I will give all the ratings and stuff that I can.

    Canon XH-A1S 3CCD HDV High Definition Professional Camcorder feels like a terrific tool that can do whatever you need and the picture quality–even on Auto–is beautiful. Having the two XLR terminals will make a big difference, too. The versatility and design really meets such a variety of needs–way too much machine/expense for “home video” (it’s not the kind of camera people forget is pointing at them), but great if you want to shoot training films, web videos, independent films.

Back in the day, he was using a $20,000 camera, so I doubt he's using anything nearly that cheap now. That said, you can get a lot of really affordable HD cameras for under $3,000. A friend of mine I shoot with uses the Panasonic HDCHS300K-HD, which he got at http://www.digitalimaginghq.com/ He shoots YouTube and Vimeo videos with it, and they all come out with a very nice quality as far as picture and sound. With a 4 - 48 mm lens it really gives him a great range when shooting. Best of luck!

well i know alot of people these days are going to dslr, i would suggest a canon 7D or a 5Dmk2, as for video camera i would suggest panasonic hmc150, or a sony fx7, but definatly check out the dslr's alot of film makers are going that way
