How much would this old Sony camcorder be worth today?

At an estate sale today, I found a Sony Handycam Video 8 (model number CCD-F501) camcorder that seems like it's brand new. It's a 1991 model. I'm not sure that this one works or not, we're still waiting for the battery to charge. But it seems like it's been kept in very good condition. I paid $40 for it, plus all of the manuals and accessories (and a carrying case). There were also a few random tapes, some are blank and others have footage on them. I've looked around Google and haven't seen many for sale that are in working condition. the problem with a 20 year old camera is it uses an obsolete format. video8 has lower resolution than even VHS. no one would want this for a serious video project. while this was an "upscale" model it would need the better resolution of Hi8 to be worth $40. it is likely the battery will not take a charge, and replacing it would just be throwing good money after bad. just my opinion of course. if it does play tapes, you might be able to sell it with AC power supply to someone that needs a camcorder to view their own old tapes. best luck on disposing it.
