    Don't know about a "Canon HD20". Canon HV20 is a miniDV tape based high definition camcorder. A computer with a firewire port is required so you can connect it (not USB) to the camcorder's DV port (not USB) with a firewire cable (not USB). Camorder in Play or VCR mode, launch the HDV-compliant video editor and Import or Capture the video form the tape. USB will not work. USB-to firewire cable/converter/adapter things will not work. USB is used only for transferring stills from the memory card. Canon HF20 is flash memory based and records AVCHD-compressed MTS files. It is easiest to take the memory card out and copy the MTS files to the computer with a card reader. Canon HG20 is hard drive based and records AVCHD-compressed MTS files. Getting the video off the internal hard drive can be interesting - but basically, with the camcorder in Play or PC mode, the HDD should mount like any other mass storage. The flash memory and HDD camcorders capture the same video file formats and connect to a computer with a USB cable. Current versions of iMovie and Final Cut for Macintosh or Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere are the usual Windows suspects - but that assumes your computer hardware (CPU, RAM, available hard drive space) exceed the minimum requirements for dealing with AVCHD files. Since you did not tell us anything about your computer, we have no way to know.
