How do I get my footage from my video camera onto my computer?

  • I have the panasonic gs400 and I can't figure how to get the footage from the camera onto my computer. My tape is all filled up so I can't film until I put the footage on my computer so I can erase what's on the tape. I put the usb cord into the camera and connect it to my computer and and put the camera setting to pc and nothing happens, I can't import it or nothing. how do I my film stuff onto my computer

  • Answer:

The GS400 is a MiniDV camcorder - you need to capture the video via firewire rather than USB. If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

You can't use USB, you need to use firewire. The transfer rate with USB is too slow to work with a miniDV camcorder. The USB cord is for pictures. Check out this firewire guide: http://www.stashspace.com/video-editing/firewire-guide.stm
