  Go with Sony, they're an industry standard. Recording onto miniDV tape will give you the best quality (Sony HC9), but it has certain drawbacks. For example, it requires "real time" to transfer the video to your computer. [An hour of video takes an hour to transfer.] Recording onto memory cards cards (Sony CX12) is the most convenient. A built in hard drive is a "middle of the road" option. (Sony XR500V) Whatever you buy, look for a CCD that's at least 1/3 inch, a high quality lens, HD video, etc. The above cameras cost around $1000. A real professional camcorder costs around $3000 (Sony FX1000). Of course, your skill, technique, preparation etc are the biggest factors in the quality of your videos.
