How much would a repair cost for a camcorder?

A question about changing an LCD screen on a Canon Camcorder?

  • About three weeks ago I accidentally cracked the LCD screen on Canon Vixia HF-R100 camcorder. I sent it to a Canon repair facility and Canon told me It was going to cost $264.45 to fix it,. Now, seeing as the camera was purchased for just over $300 this repair cost is outrageous to me. I presented my case to geek squad and they would have charged about the same. However, I was able to find a canon parts wholesaler that has an Canon LCD screen for the Vixia HF-100 (I have the HF R-100, A slightly different model) for $70. This screen has the same physical dimensions as the original, but a different pixel density. My question is: Can I successfully swap out the display even though the the aftermarket display has a different pixel density than the original? I just want to know If it can be done before I purchase the LCD screen. Any guidance in this matter would be great. Thanks in advance,

  • Answer:

I had an canon hv40 at on point and the firewire port went down on it. Same deal parts are out there and the repair costs are super high. I just opted to go out and find another camera. Its better than buy the part learning it doesn't work and still having to buy a new camera.
