I have the Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder. Will a linear polarizer filter work or must I get the circular?

Answer:
the circular filter is only needed in situations where the lens (or zoom lens) does not have IF (internal focus). traditional lenses focus by turning the outer-most (or first) lens element. most AF lenses made today focus by adjusting not the first element, but an internal element, so the first element, the one with the filter ring, does not twist for either zoom or focus. So you can use either polarizer style with the vixia and still have full AF function.
