What is the best 8mm camcorder that I should buy?

  • I am looking for an 8mm camcorder as I have a really hard time finding them. I have looked in many shops for an 8mm camcorder, but it seems like no one has an 8mm camcorder. I believe the net is the best place for me to be looking for an 8mm camcorder and I know that a lot of people in here are experts in finding this kind of stuff. So where can I find an 8mm camcorder that is just awesome and which one would you recommend? Thanks

    I would go for the Sony CCD-TR818 (check link below). My friend who is a camcorder lover always talks about this one, and I believe he also has it. From the reviews I have read about it, it is supposed to be great. Great quality, very easy to use and simply everything you need in an 8mm camcorder. Good Luck!!

you can't find them because they have not been produced for 15 years. Video8 and VHS camcorders were replaced by miniDV by international agreement among manufacturers. Most of the old stock was dumped 10 years ago by QVC, Home Shopping Network and other sellers of close-out merchandise. You really don't want 8mm as Video8 was the lowest resolution analog video/audio system ever used, worse than VHS or Betamax. It looked ok on an old 13 inch color CRT TV set, but will look and sound just awful on a modern large screen LCD HDTV.

There are 3 different 8mm video standards and they were all superceded at least 10 years ago. Why do you want an 8mm camcorder? If you need to read old tapes, what format were they in? You can still find them on places like eBay and Craig's List.
