How do I upload videos on my Handycam?

HOW CAN I GET VIDEOS FROM A SONY HANDYCAM DCR-DVD201 TO UPLOAD TO MY CAMERA?

  • for a project I borrowed a friends sony handycam dcr-dvd201 to make a video. now when i try to put the videos onto my computer ,when i plug in the camera to the usb it says new software has been found and that necessary software has been installed but nothing else happens. Do I need a certain type of sony software for it to work on my computer?

    It will be easier if your computer has a drawer loading DVD/optical drive. Just download and install a DVD ripper. I like HandBrake http://handbrake.fr/ Finalize the DVD in the camcorder if needed - take the disc out of the camcorder and put it in the drawer loading DVD drive in the computer; launch HandBrake and rip the video. Save the ripped video in a format your video editor likes... .avi, .wmv, .dv are common for Microsoft MovieMaker. Never use an odd shaped or small (8cm) disc with a slot loading optical drive. You will scratch the disc and break the drive. To answer your question directly, no, you do not need special Sony software.

This camera uses minidvd's. You take the dvd out of the camera. If you have a mini dvd camcorder…. You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (I downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.
