What's the difference between tapeless and hard-drive for camcorders?

try to buy camcorder. some have tapeless, some have hard-drive. what's the difference and which is better?

Tapeless could refer to using a memory card of some kind, which will limit its capacity to the size of the card you buy. A hard drive recorder will probably be cheaper but have the limitations of not being able to add space (I.e., you can swap memory cards but not hard drives) not to mention hard drives are fairly fragile devices-- drop your camera and you're likely to mess up the drive and lose everything on it. (With a tape or memory card you might at least be able to salvage that) Knowing what specific models you're looking at might help make answering the question easier.

the difference is that tapeless means that it need a memory card to store data wheras the hard drive means that it already has a build in limited memory and expandable memory to store data i advice to go for the hard drive one

Hard drive camcorder store pictures in a hard disc and tape less,probably memory card(not very good pictures,but easy and good for up load to Internet). If you are looking for good picture quality, go for a 3ccd(tape or disc)camcorder.
