What would be a good hybrid SD card/DVD camcorder??

SD card compatible with camcorder?

  • I dug out an old camcorder from several years ago, its model is Panasonic PV-DC352. Its original SD card is 16Mb. I tried to use a 1Gb SD card for it, but it says "card error" and doesn't work. I searched online, and there are places that claim their 1Gb card will work for my camcorder model, and there are some that say the maximum memory is 512Mb. When a place says the memory card is "guaranteed to work," should I believe them? Is there any way I can make sure the memory card I buy will work with my camcorder?

    To be safe, I would take it into a store with you. I know from experience, that a lot of places (Best Buy) for example will help you find the right card. If you bring it in, they will actually test it before you leave to make sure it works. Some of the experts can actually just look at the camcorder and just tell you what will work and what wont. This is probably your best bet!

I don't know what the maximum size SD card is, but that camcorder only records something like 1 mega pixel stills - there's no point in buying a high capacity card unless you plan to share it with another camera. <edit> The SD cards in camcorders are usually just for stills. 1 megapixel images don't use much space, so there's no need for a large card. That said, I hadn't realised the PV-DC352 can record MPEG-4 - sorry! You'll probably get better quality by shooting everything as DV and then converting the edited video to MPEG-4.
