I have Video Camera issues.

Buying a new camera?

  • I'm taking an advanced video production class in school next year. They provide all the equipment I need, but over the summer I have to shoot and edit a various amount of and types of films to stay in the class. The only cameras I have now are an old Hi-8 that I have issues with transfering to my PC and a digital camera that has about a 5min battery life when recording video. I want a very inexpensive (I was thinking in the $100 range) video camera, doesn't have to be the greatest one out there. I want to get started as soon as I can (school starts back up in September). Anyone have any suggestions? And estimated prices would be great as well. Thanks- Dylan

When you say video camera, I take it you mean a digital video camera that can take stills, not just another digital still camera that takes video. Problem is that a video camera under $100 might not have any better battery range than your digital still camera. You can get one under $100 even at Walgreens!! But any digital still camera should go longer even on video. I have an older Samsung and can get about 1/2 hr of video on batteries, just have to have large enough SD card to put it all on. But a video camera probably will have better controls and settings than video from a still camera. Just go to Walmart or any electronics store (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and just look at them, examine them. Yeah, you'll drool over the JVC models that are $600-800, but you'll find something to fit your needs.
